Communicative and stylistic potential of sentences with homogeneous parts

The article presents an in-depth analysis of homogeneous sentence elements as a key means of complicating the syntactic structure of a simple sentence, with particular emphasis on their use in the poetic discourse of contemporary Ukrainian authors. The relevance of the topic arises from the growing scholarly interest in the functional and stylistic parameters of syntactic constructions, in line with modern linguistics’ broader focus on the communicative and aesthetic functions of language. The research is grounded in the premise that formal coordination does not always coincide with logical- semantic coordination, which becomes evident in the internal hierarchy of homogeneous components, especially in texts with pronounced expressive load. The multifunctionality of homogeneous sentence elements is examined, with particular attention to their capacity to create semantic perspective, convey psychological, intellectual, and emotional states of the speaker, and implement stylistic devices characteristic of poetic language. The article proposes a typology of stylistic functions of homogeneity, highlighting phenomena such as amplification, anaphora, gradation, parcelling, and syntactic parallelism. It explores the potential of homogeneous constructions to express dynamism, imagery, and economy of linguistic means while preserving semantic depth. Special attention is paid to the pragmatic potential of sentences with homogeneous elements, which in poetic texts function as a tool for expressing the speaker’s communicative intentions, actualizing evaluative meanings, and eliciting specifc responses from the addressee. The analysis of examples from the works of contemporary authors (O. Kryshtopa, T. Kviten, Anatoliy Anatoliy, B. Tomenchuk among others) reveals a high degree of individualization in the use of homogeneity, resulting in the formation of author‑ specific syntactic models that are both stylistically marked and pragmatically charged. The study concludes that homogeneous sentence elements play a significant role in shaping the stylistic contour of the text, and that their investigation from a functional and pragmatic perspective opens up new avenues for analyzing syntactic structures in poetic discourse
