The article is devoted to the analysis and assessment of the positive and negative effects of tourism development that accompany it. This sphere of services has a significant impact on the ecological environment and socio-economic development of the receiving territories. The article analyzes the main positive and negative consequences of tourism, both on the environment of the regions, and on socio-economic indicators of impact. The impact of tourism on the environment is discussed. Based on the conducted studies, specific recommendations are presented in the form of a conclusion, the implementation of which can reduce the negative consequences of tourist and recreational activities. The main content of these recommendations lies in the effective management of resort and recreational areas, regulation of tourist behavior, compliance with sanitary norms and rules by participants in the tourist and recreational services market.
