The text proposes a dating for the oldest icons from Marko?sMonastery near Skopje, taking into account the sources on themonastery?s ktetors. In particular, it highlights the fact that theproportions of the existing altar barrier, created during therestoration of the church undertaken by King Vukasin (1365?1371), do not correspond to these icons, while also underscoringthe uncommon epithets on the icons of St. John the Forerunnerand St. Demetrios, which indicate that they may havebeen created in Constantinople or Thessalonike. In view of thisinformation, the paper suggests that the icons were painted between1365 and 1377 at a major Byzantine artistic center.
