This document is a Section 106 archaeological survey and inventory report that discusses the efforts associated with the work completed for the Backbone Fiber-optic Transmission System (BFOTS) at Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB). The United States Air Force identified the need to assure the safety of launch personnel after the in-flight failure of a Titan 34D missile and determined to address this need through the development of a remote launch control center connected to launch complexes and other facilities by a fiber-optic transmission system. This report was prepared to provide an inventory of historic properties that could potentially be affected by the development of the fiber-optic transmission system.
