In recent years, the demand for electricity has peaked due to the increase in the number of electrical devices, gadgets, and industrial appliances. This sudden change in load causes load shedding problems due to unpredictability and lack of real-time monitoring, which may be resolved in IoT. In this paper, IoT is incorporated for monitoring parameters in the electrical grid and overcurrent and undervoltage protection. The distribution load parameters can be monitored through the IoT using current and voltage sensors. Protection is done using relays. The smart grid is one of the aspects of the smart city model, which includes energy consumption monitoring and protection systems via IoT. A user can monitor energy consumption in watts via a webpage by entering a channel ID for the load. The Wi-Fi unit performs IoT operations by providing load energy data to a webpage that can be viewed using any Android mobile device’s channel ID.
