In recent years, film feminism has flourished, and the problem of female characterization in films has attracted much attention. However, there are still shortcomings in the research on intergenerational comparisons of female characters in films in different periods to draw common conclusions. Therefore, this article uses the relevant theories in Bovoir’s Second Sex, takes Zhang Yimou’s series of films as a case study, and explores the intergenerational changes in the shaping of female characters in various films from the perspective of feminism. After analysis, this article derives the positive changes in the shaping of female characters in each film: individual to group image shaping, diversified shaping of social background, and a deep awakening tendency. At the same time, this article also finds the problems in shaping: the perspective of the weak, the defects in the way of identification, and the obvious symbolization. For this reason, this article puts forward the following suggestions: it can try to approach the perspective of the weak, and appropriately give female characters fresh activity, etc.
