A year's observations of katabatic winds at Mawson are discussed with relation to the low level wind profile, diurnal and seasonal variation, and frequency of onset and cessation. Frequency data on changes in wind speed, pressure, temperature and relative humidity are presented. Limited evidence exists for the influence of Southern Ocean depressions, moving to the north of the station, on katabatic activity. Some aerial observations of sastrugi orientation are discussed in relation to katabatic flow in other parts of the MacRobertson Land region.
