Abstract The essay examines how identity, displacement and belonging are intricated in the neo-diasporic texts of the Kiran Desai fiction. Via a critical analysis of The Inheritance of Loss and Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard, the paper looks at the way in which Desai reflects the psychological and socio political state of postcolonial migrants and their offspring. The paper utilizes theoretical knowledge of diaspora studies and post colonialist literature to examine the cultural tensions between rootedness and transnational identity, especially in migrant settings, hybridization and alienation. It claims that Desai novelistic works document the paradox of the neo-diasporic life: based on memory but floating in the uncertainty of contemporary global order. Locating her characters in the ever-changing landscape of nationhood, class and culture, Desai remaps home and exile. The paper further considers the reflectivity of her literary style the lyrical, ironic and postmodern fragmented style with the disoriented self in diaspora.
