ABSTRACT This article explores the relationship between academic freedom and the field of political science, focusing on scholars’ duty to engage in societal issues related to their area of expertise, rather than merely protecting their intellectual pursuits from outside influence. By drawing on and expanding the Confucian principles, it examines how this viewpoint informs the responsibilities of scholars and educators working within the discipline.
