The Effectiveness of Project-Based Learning in Enhancing Critical Thinking and Student Engagement in Higher Education

This study investigates the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PBL) in higher education, focusing on its impact on students’ critical thinking skills and engagement. PBL is an instructional approach that emphasizes active learning, collaboration, and the application of knowledge to real-world problems. Unlike traditional lecture-based methods, PBL encourages students to take responsibility for their learning, work in teams, and develop problem-solving abilities. The research employs a mixed-method design, combining quantitative surveys, qualitative interviews, and performance analysis. Data were collected from undergraduate students participating in semester-long projects. The findings reveal that PBL significantly enhances student motivation, engagement, and critical thinking. Students reported increased satisfaction, deeper understanding of course material, and improved teamwork and communication skills. The study concludes that Project-Based Learning is an effective pedagogical strategy for higher education, promoting both academic achievement and essential soft skills.
