This study analyzed 45 renovation cases of Registered Tangible Cultural Properties (Buildings) in Japan. Renovation methods were categorized into six types : structural reinforcement, exterior preservation, interior planning and design, barrier-free adaptation, fire safety, and environmental performance. Design approaches were grouped into four patterns depending on their relationship with existing building features : restoring the original form, creating clear contrasts through additions, respecting past alterations, and differentiating between exterior and interior. Furthermore, the analysis clarified how legal and functional requirements shaped renovation decisions, and proposed a framework to support adaptive reuse while balancing preservation and contemporary needs.
