Challenges and Opportunities in Legal Frameworks for Post-Conflict Reconstruction in South African Societies: A Mixed-Methods Inquiry

Post-conflict reconstruction in South African societies requires robust legal frameworks to address historical injustices and promote sustainable development. A mixed-methods study combining semi-structured interviews with purposive sampling and online surveys to gather data on legal frameworks and public perceptions across South African provinces. Findings indicate that while there is significant support for comprehensive reparations (85% of respondents), implementation challenges include resource allocation and political will, necessitating tailored strategies in each province. The mixed-methods approach reveals nuanced insights into the legal landscape post-conflict, highlighting both systemic gaps and areas of consensus among stakeholders. Policy recommendations focus on integrating reparative justice initiatives with economic development programmes to ensure sustainable recovery and reconciliation efforts.
