The evaluation fieldwork comprised the excavation of 23 trenches each measuring 50m x 1.8m. The trenches were positioned to test geophysical anomalies identified in the 2023 geophysical survey (Magnitude Surveys) and to provide a representative 5% sample of the remainder of the site. Minor adjustments were made to the trench layout during fieldwork to avoid buried services and on-site constraints. Specifically, Trenches 18, 20, 21, and 22 were relocated slightly from their proposed positions to avoid underground utilities while maintaining the intended sampling strategy. In October 2025, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of Land West of Pagham Road at Pagham, West Sussex. A total of 23 trenches were excavated. The archaeological evaluation identified limited archaeological features, primarily comprising ditches, pits, furrows, and modern land drains, with sporadic evidence of medieval activity located to the western part of site. The overall distribution and character of archaeological evidence indicate that the site was predominantly agricultural in use, with little evidence for settlement or intensive occupation.
