Digital libraries have become integral to modern learning environments, offering students access to a wealth of information resources that can enhance their literacy skills and educational outcomes. A mixed-methods approach was employed, integrating both qualitative interviews with educators and students as well as quantitative data collection through standardised literacy tests administered annually to a representative sample of students across participating schools. Over the three-year period, there was a statistically significant increase in average literacy scores from baseline levels, indicating improved student performance. Specifically, the proportion of students scoring above proficiency level rose by 15% compared to pre-intervention data. The mixed-methods study provides evidence that digital libraries can be effective tools for enhancing student literacy rates in rural Malawi, contributing to educational equity and improving access to quality learning materials. Based on the findings, it is recommended that continued support and investment in digital library infrastructure be prioritised within rural schools. Additionally, ongoing professional development for educators should focus on leveraging these resources effectively.
