As a component of LHCb Upgrade II, the two Ring-Imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detectors in LHCb will undergo a photodetector upgrade during LHC Long Shutdown 4 (LS4), replacing the multi-anode photomultiplier tubes (MaPMTs) currently installed with a new technology capable of providing time resolved photon detection. A candidate technology for this upgrade is that of microchannel plate photomultipliers. This work presents characterisation results of one such detector, the Large Area Picosecond Photodetector (LAPPD), and an early measurement of the next generation High Rate Picosecond Photodetector (HRPPD).
