Gender dynamics in business paradigms are critical for understanding economic development in sub-Saharan Africa. Ethiopia's business environment is characterized by significant gender disparities, which have not been thoroughly analysed. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews with quantitative surveys was employed to gather data from a diverse sample of Ethiopian businesses across various sectors. The analysis reveals that while nearly half (45%) of business owners in Ethiopia are women, they face significant barriers such as limited access to finance and social networks. Women entrepreneurs report lower levels of decision-making power compared to their male counterparts. This study highlights the need for targeted interventions aimed at improving gender equity in Ethiopian businesses, particularly in terms of financial support and networking opportunities. Policy makers should prioritise initiatives that enhance women's economic empowerment by addressing systemic barriers and fostering inclusive business environments.
