Gender Dynamics and Power Transitions in Nigerian Political Shifts, 2014

The study examines gender dynamics in Nigerian political transitions, focusing on the period following the elections. An action research approach was employed, involving interviews with key political figures, focus groups of women in politics, and analysis of existing election data. Gender representation in Nigerian parliaments increased by 5% from pre- to post-election levels, though disparities persisted across party affiliations. The increase in female participation mirrors broader global trends but is not uniform across all political parties. Further research should focus on understanding the factors driving these changes and their long-term implications for gender equality in Nigerian politics.
