Abstract Although composer Paul Hindemith’s opera of The Long Christmas Dinner, with a libretto by Thornton Wilder, was well received at its premiere in 1961, subsequent professional productions of the opera have been rare. These three previously published reviews by Janie Caves McCauley of productions in Estonia, France, and the United States document the characteristics of each production. Collectively the three reviews celebrate the work, and it is hoped that by reprinting McCauley’s informative pieces, future professional productions of this too-long-neglected Wilder/Hindemith collaboration will be considered.
