The article examines the social function of the state as one of the essential dimensions of governmental activity, determined by the nature and purpose of public authority. Various theoretical approaches to the concept of the state are analyzed, as well as the constitutional provisions of the Russian Federation reflecting its social role. Special attention is given to ensuring a decent standard of living, the development of education, healthcare, and culture, and the protection of socially vulnerable groups. It is emphasized that the social function of the state is aimed at achieving public harmony, reducing social inequality, and strengthening social justice. The conclusion is made that further improvement of state social policy and the establishment of effective mechanisms for the realization of socio-economic and cultural rights are necessary, which in the long term should ensure social welfare and cohesion consistent with the spiritual foundations of national life.
