This manuscript provides a historical review of the evolution, landmark trials, and future of coronary artery bypass grafting.
Abstract Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery is one of the most commonly performed surgeries in the United States. It remains the gold standard of coronary artery revascularization despite the introduction of percutaneous coronary interventions and advancements in medical therapy. First conceptualized in the 1900s, CABG underwent decades of trials, experimentation, innovations, and even failures. Despite the challenges, CABG continued to innovate, overcoming the complexities of coronary artery disease and improving patient outcomes. This manuscript aims to discuss the beginnings, evolution, and future of CABG.
