Abstract

Watching brief during machine excavation of building footprint, followed by hand excavation. An irregular sub-rectangular pit was observed cutting the natural on the eastern side of the stripped area, this was filled with a dark greyish brown, friable silty clay (104). It had a maximum depth of 0.38m and contained one fragment of post-medieval pottery and two pieces of post-medieval/modern glass, these were not recovered but confirmed the relatively recent date of the feature.
