AbstractSpices are one of the best varieties, and they are the most commonly used plants all over the world. India is known as “The Origin and Land of Spices.” There is no other country in the world that produces as many kinds of spices as India. At present, India is the largest producer, consumer, and exporter of spices. From being the traditional supplier of spices in whole form (bulk), India has been emerging as the premier Global Hub for the processing of spices. The objectives of the present study were to analyze and examine the area, production, productivity, and export of major spices of India. The six major spices selected for the study were pepper, chili, ginger, turmeric, coriander, and cumin. The time series data were obtained for the period from 2009-10 to 2023-24. The study revealed that chili was found to be the most stable and sustainable in cultivation over the last 15 years, and turmeric was found to be the most stable and sustainable spice in export from India over the last 15 years, while pepper was found to be the most unstable and unsustainable spice in export during the same period. The findings of the present study would be of practical significance for researchers, extension personnel, policymakers, planners, administrators, and farmers to make rational decisions for the benefit of the Indian farmer.
