Psychological Stress among Physical Education Teachers Working with Students with Special Educational Needs in Umm al-Fahm Region

Introduction: Physical education teachers play a key role in supporting the overall development of students, particularly those with special educational needs, whose education requires specialized strategies and efforts. With multiple responsibilities and limited institutional resources, teachers are increasingly exposed to psychological stress that can affect their professional performance. Objective: This study aims to assess the level of psychological stress among physical education teachers working with students with special educational needs in schools in the Umm al-Fahm District during the 2024–2025 academic year and to examine whether stress levels differ according to gender and teaching experience. Methodology: A descriptive-analytical design was employed. The sample consisted of 49 teachers selected through stratified random sampling from a population of 122. A 22-item questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale was developed to measure psychological stress, with a high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.91). Data were analyzed using means, standard deviations, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results: Findings revealed that the overall level of psychological stress among physical education teachers working with students with special needs was moderate (overall mean = 3.00). No statistically significant differences were found based on gender or teaching experience, indicating a similar level of stress across the subgroups studied. Conclusions and Recommendations: Physical education teachers experience moderate psychological stress related to limited resources, slow student progress, and low compensation. The study emphasizes the need for institutional interventions to enhance teachers’ mental well-being, improve the work environment, provide sustainable psychological and professional support, and offer specialized training programs for managing students with special educational needs. المقدمة: يشكل معلمو التربية الرياضية ركيزة أساسية في دعم النمو الشامل للطلبة، خاصة أولئك من ذوي الاحتياجات التربوية الخاصة الذين يتطلب تعليمهم جهودًا واستراتيجيات متخصصة. ومع تعدد المهام وضعف الإمكانيات المؤسسية، تزداد احتمالية تعرض المعلمين لضغوط نفسية تؤثر في أدائهم المهني. الهدف: هدفت الدراسة إلى التعرف على مستوى الضغوط النفسية لدى معلمي ومعلمات التربية الرياضية العاملين مع الطلبة ذوي الاحتياجات التربوية الخاصة في مدارس منطقة أم الفحم خلال العام الدراسي 2024–2025، والكشف عن الفروق في هذه الضغوط وفقًا لمتغيري النوع الاجتماعي والخبرة التدريسية. المنهجية: استخدمت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي التحليلي. تكونت العينة من (49) معلمًا ومعلمة تم اختيارهم بطريقة طبقية عشوائية من مجتمع يتألف من (122) معلماً. تم تطوير أداة لقياس الضغوط النفسية مكونة من (22) فقرة موزعة على مجالات متعددة، واعتمدت على مقياس ليكرت الخماسي. بلغت قيمة معامل الثبات (كرونباخ ألفا) للأداة (0.91). تم تحليل البيانات باستخدام المتوسطات الحسابية والانحرافات المعيارية وتحليل التباين الأحادي. النتائج: أظهرت النتائج أن مستوى الضغوط النفسية لدى معلمي التربية الرياضية العاملين مع الطلبة ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة كان متوسطًا (بمتوسط كلي = 3.00). ولم تُظهر النتائج فروقًا ذات دلالة إحصائية تُعزى إلى متغيري النوع الاجتماعي أو الخبرة التدريسية، مما يدل على أن الضغوط التي يتعرض لها المعلمون متقاربة بغض النظر عن الجنس أو سنوات الخبرة. الاستنتاجات: يعاني معلمو التربية الرياضية من تحديات وضغوط نفسية متوسطة الشدة ترتبط بنقص الموارد، بطء تقدم الطلبة، وتدني الأجور. وتؤكد النتائج الحاجة إلى تدخلات مؤسسية لتعزيز الصحة النفسية للمعلمين، وتحسين بيئة العمل، وتقديم دعم نفسي ومهني مستدام.
