ARCUS were commissioned by Mr. Karl Shaw to conduct an archaeological watching brief during groundworks in preparation for construction of a new garage and garden store at the Manor House, North Wingfield, Derbyshire. The footings of a substantial sandstone wall were identified, with two parallel stone-lined drains. These features probably date to the eighteenth or nineteenth century. In addition, a shallow feature, probably a pit, was encountered, with a single large sherd of thirteenth- or fourteenth-century pottery. This feature probably relates to medieval occupation of the site.
