In October 2005 ARCUS were commissioned by Yorkcourt Properties Ltd to undertake an archaeological mitigation on land at Paragon Business Village, Wakefield, West Yorkshire (centre NGR SE324 227). This evaluation was required by WYAS Advisory Service as part of the planning application for a proposed business centre. One trench was located on the site around an existing feature that had been previously identified during the evaluation (ARCUS Report 522.2 2000). This feature was described as a pit containing layers of charcoal and burnt stone and the excavation was carried out to determine whether any other features surrounded it. Upon starting to strip the site it was realised that the topsoil had already been removed down to the natural clay and in some places the bedrock thus removing all traces of any potential archaeological evidence.
