The groundworks comprising of general ground reduction and the excavation of strip footings were undertaken under continuous archaeological supervision in level spits of no more than 0.10m The watching brief identified a buried soil horizon which was present within the foundation trenches of all three plots. This layer was overlain by a 20th century demolition layer and make up deposits probably associated with the construction of the business park in the latter 20th century. Although the buried soil horizon contained a small amount of Medieval pottery, the presence of clay pipe stems and animal bone which was identifiable as Post-medieval or later suggests that this deposit is relatively late in date. It is possible that this deposit represents a former orchard topsoil prior to the construction of the business park.
