Wessex Archaeology was commissioned to carry out an evaluation comprising five 50 m by 2 m trenches within the northwest corner of a 3.4 ha parcel of land within the site of the former Creswell Colliery. No archaeological features were uncovered in the evaluation, with the only archaeological deposits recorded being made ground deposits. These are likely from the end of the 19th century or beginning of the 20th century, when the area was developed into a football field and associated stands for the colliery. The evaluation met its aims and objectives, and determined the archaeological potential of the site is low.
