Open Digital Learning Platforms (ODLPs) have emerged as a significant innovation in the education sector by offering flexible, accessible, and inclusive learning opportunities through digital technologies. These platforms provide open access to educational resources, courses, and learning tools, enabling learners to acquire knowledge beyond the constraints of time, location, and traditional classroom structures. The rapid growth of internet connectivity and digital infrastructure has further accelerated the adoption of open digital learning platforms, especially in higher education systems across developing countries like India. This study aims to analyze the concept, objectives, and effectiveness of open digital learning platforms in enhancing the teaching–learning process. It examines how these platforms contribute to improving accessibility, learner engagement, and skill development while supporting lifelong learning. The study is based on secondary data collected from academic journals, government publications, policy documents, and existing digital learning initiatives. The findings reveal that open digital learning platforms promote self-paced learning, personalized education, and cost-effective knowledge dissemination. They also play an important role in supporting national educational reforms such as digital education initiatives and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. However, challenges such as the digital divide, limited digital literacy, and infrastructure gaps remain barriers to their effective implementation. The study concludes that with proper policy support and technological advancements, open digital learning platforms can significantly strengthen the future of higher education.
