This study explores decent work, which represents an effective tool for achieving sustainable development, as it ensures social justice and economic and social development in Iraq. This is achieved through the contributions of the current Labor Law No. 37 of 2015 and the Retirement and Social Security Law No. 18 of 2023 in promoting decent work principles and achieving sustainable development goals, including the inclusion of all formal and informal sectors within the provisions of the Labor and Social Security Law. However, actual implementation on the ground and overcoming challenges remain crucial factors for achieving the desired goals, which requires concerted efforts between the three partners: the state, workers' organizations, and employers. In our study, we will rely on the descriptive analytical approach to the legal texts of the current Labor Law No. (37) of 2015 and the Retirement and Social Security Law No. (18) of 2023 to clarify and highlight the standards of decent work and sustainable development in those laws and to harmonize them with international legislation for both decent work and sustainable development internationally.
