An excavation northwest of Thatcham revealed evidence for Romano-British edge-of-settlement activity, land division and agricultural activity primarily dating from the 1st to the 2nd centuries AD. These activities, characterised by ditches, pits and postholes were associated with a sequence of enclosures and a 4-post structure. Some evidence of activity dating to the medieval period (11th to 13th centuries AD) was also found, including a small amount of pottery and an assemblage of charred plant remains.
