SCCAS required continuous archaeological recording of all excavations associated with groundworks contained in planning application DC/22/1678/FUL & DC/22/1679/LBC. Part of the archaeological brief from SCCAS required a Historic Building Recording (Cunningham, L. 2023 Brief Section 4.1), which has been undertaken by Granta Archaeology. The monitoring was undertaken in accordance with CIfA Standard and Guidance for an Archaeological Watching Brief, 2023, SCCAS Requirements for Archaeological Excavation (2024) and Standards for Field Archaeology in the East of England, 2003. The excavation of any intrusive ground works was undertaken by a mechanical excavator/by hand guided by the archaeologist and then further investigated by hand as necessary. The archaeology was recorded using pro-forma record sheets, drawn plans and section drawings and appropriate photographs were taken. Despite the potential no archaeological features were revealed and no finds recovered. The mapping evidence for the area. It seems likely that the churchyard from St Mary's continued through the to the north of the site however when the houses on the High Street were constructed the area behind them was re purposed for garden space and levelled with made up material being imported, and the southern boundary wall being constructed to separate the area from the churchyard. In the late 19th century, the barn was then constructed using methods commonly seen in this area of rural East Anglia for this period. Overall, the monitoring was successful in characterising the site and its setting in the immediate historic landscape.
