In August 2014 Archaeological Solutions (AS) carried out an archaeological trial trench evaluation at Watton Green, Watton, Norfolk (Phase 4) (NGR TF 0090 9295). The evaluation was undertaken in compliance with a planning condition attached to planning permission for the construction of 18 dwellings (Breckland Council Ref. 3PL/2014/0330/F). In the event the evaluation revealed archaeological features in each trench. The larger number (4) were recorded in Trench 1 at the northern end of the site. Trench 2 in the middle of the site contained Ditch F1004, and Trench 3 at the southern end of the site contained two features. The features were principally linears (ditches and a gully). A pit, F1008, was recorded in Trench 1. Dating evidence was sparse and four features were undated. Pit F1008 (Trench 1) and Ditch F1004 (Trench 2) each contained a struck flint of possible later Neolithic - Early Bronze Age date. The `better' dating evidence was from Ditch F1012 (Trench 3) which contained five sherds of early - middle Iron Age pottery. An unstratified sherd of early - middle Iron Age pottery was also recovered from the subsoil.
