Level 1/2 HBR report covering historic assets on the Albert Embankment including the river wall, outflows, scour aprons and timber dolphins. Most of the structures and river wall sections recorded within the area of investigation represent 20th century repairs or reconstructions. The art-deco inspired parapet and river wall to the north of Vauxhall Bridge most likely dates from the later part of the 20th century and is associated with the construction of the MI6 building, the design of which is mirrored in the paired plinths which sit between the open work, steel railings. The brickwork along the southern side of Lack's Dock appears to be the oldest material present within the area of investigation. Based on the material used in the construction of this section of the wall it likely dates from the late 19th century or the earlier half of the 20th century. The dolphins appear to be later replacements, to ensure that they remain effective in their intended role. The cobbled scour apron and outflows appear to be the oldest built elements of the embankment.
