Abstract Gentiana gaurii sp. nov. is described from Indian Western Himalayan region (Chamoli district). It is morphologically similar to G. ornata , G. lawrencei , and G. hexaphylla from which differ by both vegetative and sexual characters. A molecular study using the nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacers (nrITS) support the recognition of the new species. A diagnosis, detailed taxonomic description, original photos and drawings, ecological notes, and the conservation status of the new species are provided.
