Newly identified species Gentiana gaurii demonstrates unique morphological traits in India, indicating biodiversity significance.
Gentiana gaurii sp. nov. is described from Indian Western Himalayan region (Chamoli district). It is morphologically similar to G. ornata , G. lawrencei , and G. hexaphylla from which differ by both vegetative and sexual characters. A molecular study using the nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacers (nrITS) support the recognition of the new species. A diagnosis, detailed taxonomic description, original photos and drawings, ecological notes, and the conservation status of the new species are provided.
