Strip, Map and Sample Excavation on the Hawthorns Site, of the Oteley Road development, Oteley Road, Shrewsbury Shropshire. The first phase of the Strip, Map and Sample Excavation was undertaken to enable construction of an estate road prior to undertaking the remainder of the main proposed development. The paucity of archaeological settlement related features and the limited frequency of finds attests to there being no occupation activity within the footprint of the road within the SMS area. The foci of any Prehistoric activity alluded to by the preceding 2016 trial trenching likely lies in the north-northeast of the SMS area as a whole. The Strip, Map and Sample excavation of the estate road area was undertaken from August 26th to September 8th 2020. The excavation revealed a varied natural superficial substrate, with intermixed deposits of clays, sandy clays and gravels. Two undated linear ditches and three undated postholes were recorded in the southern extent of the excavation area
