Compression therapy has been performed as a part of complex decongestive therapy in the conservative treatment for lymphedema. Maintaining compression plays an important role in protecting the progression of lymphedema in the maintenance phase of self-management following an initial reduction phase. In particular, high adherence to the compression therapy and application of appropriate interface pressure are important. Other ways to increase the effectiveness of compression therapy include nighttime compression support, early intervention with compression garment in mild lymphedema, and low-intensity resistance training with compression garment, which will be discussed in the review.
