The number of dual-income households with children has increased significantly in Japan, reaching about five million in 2020. Yet government housing surveys lacked items to clearly identify such households, leaving their living conditions insufficiently examined. To address this, the 2023 Comprehensive Survey of Housing and Living Environments introduced new questions on dual-income households, with results released in August 2025. This study provides a preliminary analysis of these data. Findings show that in metropolitan areas, full-time dual-income households more often live near workplaces and adopt remote work, while outside metropolitan regions, residential patterns vary little by work style.
