Abstract Lyc. AB lada- ‘wife’ < *u̯lǣ́daH < *u̯léh₁-teh₂- ‘the chosen one’ is analyzed as a derivative of PIE *u̯elh₁- ‘to choose’ (Ved. vr̥̄-, GAv. niuuarānī; Ved. vará- (m.) ‘suitor’); for “State II” *u̯leh₁- cf. Dor. λῆν ‘to want’, Venet. leno ‘wish, desire’, Lat. lēnō ‘brothel-keeper’ ( < *‘purveyor of desire’) and for the semantics cf. Hitt. kūša- ‘bride, groom’ < *ǵ(e)us-ó- ‘chooser, chosen one’.
