Abstract Recent phylogenetic studies have called into question the present broad circumscription of Dorstenia (Moraceae), a genus of shrubs and herbs found largely in Africa and the Neotropics. This study presents an updated phylogenomic analysis of Dorstenia and allied genera, reviews the morphology of these taxa, and proposes a revised delimitation. The revised Dorstenia is limited to the rhizomatous and herbaceous taxa, with the woody former members of Dorstenia transferred to Hijmania and Scyphosyce . The latter is further subdivided into three sections to account for morphological heterogeneity among species. The result is a morphologically coherent set of four monophyletic genera— Dorstenia , Hijmania , Scyphosyce , and Utsetela . A key and nomenclatural synopsis are provided, 6 new combinations are made at species level, 1 at the section level, 1 new section is described, and 17 lectotypes are designated.
