Kitchen Gardens – Indications for Their Design According to the 18th and 19th of German Treaties and Garden Guides in Relation to Contemporary Design Trends

The research topic is the kitchen gardens, which have not yet been fully recognized. The objective of this article is to demonstrate, utilizing the example of Germany, the artistic values and fundamental principles od that kitchen gardens. An analysis of German horticultural treatises and guides from the 18th and 19th centuries will be conducted. The contemporary literature will enable us to refer to contemporary indications for shaping this particular type of area. The purpose of this comparison is to identify universal principles and distinguish differences resulting from various conditions.
