Abstract

The global drug trade poses a significant social, political, economic, and national and international security challenge. International cooperation is critical to effectively combating this transnational threat. This study examines the role of international cooperation as a fundamental pillar of interstate efforts to combat drug trafficking. Based on a review of international agreements and legal frameworks, this research explores mechanisms that facilitate judicial cooperation, the exchange of information and expertise between relevant government agencies and intergovernmental organizations, and the harmonization of legal frameworks, enabling states to enhance their collective capacity to disrupt and dismantle the international drug trade. International trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances is a very serious crime. It is a transnational crime that requires international cooperation between states, organizations, and international agencies. The research problem lies in the adequacy and effectiveness of international cooperation mechanisms in combating illicit drug trafficking. To address the research problem, the researcher relied on an analytical and legal approach to study international cooperation mechanisms and the role of international agreements and organizations in facilitating international cooperation between states in combating drug trafficking as a transnational crime.
