The purpose of this study was to examine individual and organization correlates of identification in two different types of organizations -- the Roman Catholic Church and research and development (R and D) laboratories -- and to compare the results with those of earlier studies made of the United States Forest Service (Hall et al., 1970; Schneider, Hall, and Nygren, 1971). The major interest was in assessing which correlates of identification are comparable in different types of organizations and which are unique to a particular system. Measures of need importance and satisfaction and job involvement were also obtained in the R and D sample. The need items were taken from the Porter instrument (1961), with the modifications described in Hall et al. (1970). The job involvement measure was the same used in the Hall study and was a modified version of instruments developed by Lodahl and Kejner (1965).
Hall et al. (Tue,) studied this question.
