Abstract This article presents the results of the laboratory test program for stainless steel I‐beams with sinusoidal corrugated web. Due to the web corrugation, the out‐of‐plane stiffness of the web increases compared to traditional flat web beams, so the thickness of the web can be reduced. Using a sinusoidal corrugated web in stainless steel beams is unique worldwide. Consequently, it is necessary to examine whether the currently available design method from the EN 1993‐1‐5:2006 is applicable. Threepoint bending tests were conducted to determine the shear resistance on beams with different geometrical parameters. The advanced numerical models were validated with the results of the laboratory tests. A parametrical study was conducted on beams with different geometrical parameters in order to investigate the shear resistance of the beams. The result of the parametrical research shows that the available design recommendation can also be used to determine the shear resistance of stainless steel I‐beams with sinusoidal web corrugation.
