Hymenopellis sphaeropeduculata is reported as a new species from different regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan based on morphology and molecular data from the ITS and LSU regions of the nuclear ribosomal DNA. The new species differs from the morphologically close species H. ahmadii by the presence of sphaeropedunculate elements in the pileipellis, comparatively smaller (4.6 × 13.5 μm) basidiospores and the presence of polymorphic cystidia. A key to Hymenopellis taxa in Pakistan is provided.
