In this work, an adaptive dual phase shift (DPS) controller based on minimum current point tracking (MCPT) is introduced. The dual active bridge (DAB) converter is employed for regulating the active power in the microgrid whereas the propounded controller facilitates the same with enhanced efficiency through the perturb and observe (P&O) lagging mechanism. The efficiency of DAB converter is greatly strengthened through the achievement of minimum current point (MCP) for inductor current. Starfish optimisation algorithm (SFOA) is used for tuning of the proportional and integral gains of the controller. Adaptive nature of the proposed algorithm is further applied to single phase shift (SPS) controller, and a comparative study is carried out. Parameter and complex modelling independence of proffered regulator is established through the conduction of software studies employing MATLAB/Simulink. TI‐Piccolo 280049C microcontroller is applied for experimentally validating the propounded controller. An experimental precursor of the DAB converter is created, and experimental studies pertaining to the developed adaptive controller are carried out.
