This working paper analyses the new language policy model implemented in Morocco since 1999 and the legislation on which it is based. I. It details the various interventions and measures that have been carried out within the framework of the new language policy, followed by a critical analysis of the same. II. Excerpts from legislative texts belonging to the dominant official-institutional discourse will be critically analysed, focusing on the assessment of languages and identities and the legitimisation of the proposed language policy model. Finally, a series of conclusions and some proposals for change are offered.
