Key Points

  • Ellagic acid alleviates cancer cachexia-induced fat loss, demonstrating significant therapeutic potential.
  • The key metric shows a reduction in abnormal fat reduction associated with cachexia in mouse model.
  • Observational analysis in a CT26 tumour-induced cachexia mouse model highlights the RXRβ-PPARγ pathway activation.
  • This may enable new treatments for cachexia, given the promising effects observed in the mouse model.

Abstract

EA mitigates cancer cachexia-induced fat loss by the activation of the RXRβ-PPARγ pathway. These findings present EA as a potential pharmacological agent to improve the abnormal fat reduction and muscle dysfunction associated with cachexia.
