The aim of the research study is to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of motor units with single-axle bogies for passenger transport. To be more specific, to design the operation for non-electrified local lines. These lines are characterized by low track speeds, frequent stops and tight curve radii, which impose specific requirements on the design and performance of vehicles. The research focuses exclusively on diesel units with independent traction that utilize an internal combustion engine as their power source. The study analyses the technical parameters, advantages and disadvantages of these rail vehicles, modernizations and the potential to meet the standards in the coming years.
