Sustainable development in South Africa faces significant challenges, including environmental degradation, economic inequality, and social disparities. The study employs qualitative research methods to analyse existing literature and interviews with psychologists working in South Africa's sustainability sectors. Themes emerged from the analysis include resilience strategies used by communities facing environmental challenges and the impact of these practices on mental health outcomes. Psychological interventions that incorporate community engagement are effective in improving psychological well-being among those affected by sustainable development issues. Policy makers should prioritise integrating psychological support into sustainability programmes to enhance overall community resilience.
